Best Foot Forward Raises $3,467.00

Nearly 100 women of all ages gathered on April 29, 2017, at the Upper Bucks Campus of Bucks County Community College to be inspired, learn something new, and have fun at Best Foot Forward, our annual major fundraising event. In addition to breakout sessions, vendors, and raffles, attendees were inspired by the life stories of keynote speaker, Jeane Coyle, president, and CEO of Penn Community Bank and Elina Fuhrman, chef and founder of Soupelina. The evening culminated in a fashion show presented by Frox, with many members of the community -- we recognized many friendly faces -- walking the runway as models.

The evening was a success based on the smiles on your faces alone, but there’s even more to celebrate as the proceeds from the event totaled $3,467.00. These funds will allow Launch Pad: Prepare for Success, a program presented by Sisters U in conjunction with Bucks County Community College’s Upper Bucks Campus to continue to be presented free of charge to all attendees. It is a six-module certificate program where local business experts lead sessions to provide students of all ages with skills to enhance their job searches and increase their potential for success in their professional endeavors.

For all of this, we thank YOU!

Special thanks to Amy McDermott of Heart and Soul Portraits for the incredible event photography and to Perkasie Florist for the gorgeous corsages for our volunteer team.

February 2017 Meeting - Celebrating Six Years of Sisters U

Thank you to everyone who attended our 6th Anniversary Celebration! Held during our February 2017 monthly meeting, we toasted six years of connecting and empowering individual women to be their authentic selves and reach their full potential.

We enjoyed a wine tasting presented by Elayne Brick, proprietor of The Washington House Restaurant and Hotel and Sellersville Theater. We learned how to enjoy the fullness of flavor in each wine and decide what we liked best. Thank you, Elayne!

June 2016 Meeting - The Evolution of Success

June2016Meeting

Women have been told, "You can have it all!" And we can. Except now we're discovering that having it all doesn't mean having it all at once. Life is a series of chapters. What does it mean to "have it all" within each stage of life?

Join us Thursday, June 16, 7-9pm, when we'll examine this with Pamela Varkony, an internationally known writer, speaker and women's advocate. Pamela has devoted her adult life to women's rights and empowerment around the world, including two fact-finding missions to Afghanistan. Born and raised in Haycock Township, Bucks County, she is currently working on a women's leadership book, "Ten Rules for Ladies."

For our June meeting we'll return to Sisters U HQ, 528 West Market Street in Perkasie. Many thanks to Emily Smith and exida for hosting our meetings these past few months. Get your tickets today!

The Value of Women's Voices - May 2016 Meeting Recap

Our May meeting was all about using your voice. It started with the circuitous journey of our Sister of the Month, singer-turned-yoga studio owner, Jessica D'Angelo and continued with a terrific talk from Colleen Lutz Clemens, PhD on how as women, we often censor ourselves and silence our voices. She shared how we can be aware of this as it happens and make sure we are heard. Colleen is the Assistant Professor of Non-Western Literature at Kutztown University and beginning in the Fall 2016 will serve as their Director of Women's and Gender Studies.

Thanks to Exida for our meeting space, Sherah Cooney for capturing the essence of our meeting with her photography and Spallone Media for the speaker video services.

Best Foot Forward: Empowering Women of All Ages

We are still on a high of our first major fundraiser, Best Foot Forward: Empowering Women of All Ages. Approximately 100 women gathered at Bucks County Community College's Upper Bucks Campus for a fun evening on Saturday, April 2, 2016. Designed as an evening for all women to create their own experience, the event included breakout sessions, "try-its," an inspiring keynote from Lu Ann Cahn and a joyous spring fashion show by FROX.

We are grateful to Perkasie Borough for co-presenting this event with us and look forward to sharing news of the proceeds very soon. The proceeds will be used to further the mission of Sisters U to empower, educate and encourage ALL women.

Many thanks to Amy McDermott of Heart and Soul Portraits for donating her talents so we have these fabulous memories from the evening.
